The Fathom mid-size pickup will be eligible for EVAP and have more passenger space than a RAV4, with pre-orders opening early 2027

Ford has finally released more information about its upcoming all-electric, mid-size pickup, due to arrive next year. 

First, the vehicle now has a name: the Fathom. It will be the first vehicle built on Ford’s Universal EV Platform. 

Perhaps more importantly, we have a price. The Ford Fathom will start at $42,690 in Canada when it becomes available sometime next year. We know the timing because Ford references in a press release that it will be eligible for a $4,000 rebate through the Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP), bringing the cost down to $38,690. 

EVAP began earlier this year with a $5,000 rebate for fully electric vehicles with a transaction price of $50,000 or less. In 2027, that rebate drops to $4,000, and then drops again to $3,000 for 2028 and 2029. In 2030 — the final year of EVAP — the rebate will be $2,000.

Standard technology

Ford says the starting price will apply to the standard-range battery, so we can assume a longer-range — and more expensive — version will also be available. 

Ford has released only a few other details about the Fathom. It will have a large, high-resolution touchscreen, bidirectional power capability, digital key and a frunk. Every Fathom will have BlueCruise capability (Ford’s semi-autonomous driving system), with Apple Maps integration. It will also feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Detroit-based automaker also says the Fathom will have more interior passenger room than the Toyota RAV4. The RAV4 was the second-best-selling vehicle in Canada last year, behind only the Ford F-150 pickup.

Waiting for more details

Beyond that, much remains unknown about the Fathom. Apart from a few spy photos of a camouflaged vehicle, Ford has kept battery size, range, power and other details quiet. Expect to see more technical information later this year, followed by a full reveal early in 2027.

Ford’s first all-electric pickup was the full-size F-150 Lightning, which began production in 2022. The Lightning was available with a range of 370 km on the standard battery and up to 515 km with the extended-range battery. Ford cut Lightning production in 2025 due to poor sales and high manufacturing costs.

The Ford Fathom will be built at the automaker’s Louisville Assembly Plant, and will be available for pre-order early next year.
