Kia has revealed Canadian pricing for the much-anticipated EV3 subcompact, all-electric SUV. It is now the least expensive EV in the country.
The base-model EV3 Light FWD starts at $39,744 all-in pricing ($36,995 MSRP) before taxes. That beats the cost of what was Canada’s least expensive EV — which happened to be another Kia, the EV4 — by more than $1,500 all-in, or $2,000 by MSRP.
The EV3 offers two battery sizes. The Light FWD is only available with a 58.3 kWh battery, good for a range of up to 356 km. Every other trim gets the larger 81.4 kWh battery, which delivers a range of up to 517 km on FWD models and 451 km on AWD models.
Every EV3 comes with a standard NACS charging port and can get from 10 per cent charge to 80 per cent in around 29 minutes for the standard 58.3 kWh pack and 31 minutes for the 81.4 kWh pack.
The EV3 is built on Kia’s 400V e-GMP global platform and offers a spacious interior. Cargo room measures 740 litres behind the second row, with an added 25 L in the frunk.
Ten trims
Kia offers no less than 10 trim levels of the EV3, although eight of those are simply four trims offered in either FWD or AWD. The GT AWD is the performance version, with 288 hp, neon accents on the brake calipers, suede synthetic leather seats and other design touches.
Apart from the GT AWD, single-motor, front-drive versions develop 201 hp, while dual-motor, AWD models get 262 hp.
Eight of the 10 trim levels will qualify for Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) rebates, knocking all-in prices down a further $5,000 this year, or $4,000 next year.

Standard and available features
Even the base Light FWD comes with a good list of features, including a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch driver instrument cluster screen, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control and smart key with push-button start, among others.
It also comes with a wide array of electronic driving aids, such as Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 1.5 (Car / Pedestrian / Cyclist) with junction turning, Blind-spot Collision Avoidance Assist and Rear Occupant Alert, to name a few.
Of course, going up the trim ladder will get more advanced features, such as an available V2L AC outlet, a power sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system and smart power lift gate.
The Kia EV3 will be in dealerships later this month.
