Tim Hortons is joining forces with Quebec-based charging company, FLO, to install electric vehicles fast chargers at 100 of its restaurant locations across Canada by the end of 2028.
The initiative will position the coffee-and-doughnut chain to become the country’s largest restaurant provider of EV fast charging.
“We’re thrilled to partner with FLO to make life a little easier for guests driving electric vehicles,” says Hope Bagozzi, chief marketing officer for Tim Hortons in a press statement. “[W]e are targeting installations in all 10 provinces to provide coast-to-coast coverage for our guests.”
The rollout is supported through FLO’s partnership with the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB). In 2023, the CIB made a loan commitment of $235 million to FLO to help bring more than 1,900 public fast charging ports online nationwide.
“The partnership between Tim Hortons and FLO uniquely supports the large-scale deployment of charging stations, at convenient locations for EV owners,” says Ehren Cory, CEO of the CIB.
“The CIB’s support for FLO brings more charging stations online across Canada, helping to address drivers’ range anxiety.”
The first installation of chargers is already operational at a Tim Hortons in Regina, Sask., located at 3810 Chuka Boulevard. The site features FLO Ultra chargers, that can deliver up to 120 kilometres of range in about 10 minutes.
Additional rollouts are also already underway.
Up to 13 more restaurants are expected to be outfitted with FLO’s fast chargers by the end of 2025, expanding to 50 locations by 2026. Each participating restaurant will feature an average of four charging ports, all part of FLO’s network with uptimes of above 98 per cent.
Drivers can locate stations and begin charging sessions through the FLO mobile app.
“This partnership with Tim Hortons marks a pivotal moment in making EV charging a seamless part of everyday life for Canadians,” says Louis Tremblay, president and CEO of FLO.
“By investing ourselves in the installation of FLO Ultra chargers at trusted, well-visited locations, we are accelerating our strategic focus as an Own and Operate charging network operator and delivering the reliable infrastructure EV drivers need to confidently embrace their transition to electric mobility.”
