MURB challenges

The basis of electrification is twofold: power and managing available power.

Accessing charging infrastructure in existing multi-unit residential buildings presents unique complexities. Recognizing and addressing the challenges of retrofitting EV charging in these environments was a top priority for Eaton when we collaborated with Evolute Power, an electric utility manufacturer, to develop the Evolute charging panel.

The Evolute is an innovative smart panel system that places the “brains” of the charging solution within the power distribution panel itself—rather than in each individual charging station.

This PLC-based, charger-agnostic system not only simplifies installation and management but also offers flexibility in billing, supporting either built-in billing or seamless integration with any third-party metering provider.

“With the Evolute – Eaton redefines modularity and scalability for Multi-Unit Residential EV charging,” says Agbogidi. “Our platform is a load management solution that empowers MURBs to optimize today’s electrical needs while adapting to future demands, ensuring flexibility and efficiency on limited electrical capacity.”

To address this, Eaton developed an all-in-one commercial solution that consolidates everything required for power distribution; includes a transformer that steps down the 600 volts delivered by the utility, distribution board and our smart EV breaker chargers which integrate the protection and charger into 1 unit.
