Toronto-based SWTCH Energy and Quebec-based FLO have struck a roaming agreement designed to streamline access and remove barriers to charging for electric vehicles drivers.
Launched today, the partnership allows drivers on either network to access chargers across both ecosystems using their existing mobile app and payment method. That means no new accounts to set up, no extra apps to install and no new payment methods or wallets to manage.
“Our partnership with FLO represents exactly the kind of industry collaboration that will encourage and accelerate EV adoption,” says Carter Li, CEO of SWTCH, in a press statement.
“Through breaking down network silos…we’re creating the seamless, integrated charging ecosystem that drivers deserve, and the industry needs to reach its full potential.”
Louis Tremblay, president and CEO of FLO, echoes that sentiment.
“FLO is helping to shape the future of EV charging by building one of the most extensive and reliable networks in North America,” he says.
“Working with SWTCH strengthens that network even further, giving drivers the confidence that charging will be seamless wherever their road takes them.”
With this integration, SWTCH drivers are now able to access more than 70,000 FLO chargers across North America. Meanwhile, FLO members are able to plug into SWTCH’s 110,000 public chargers, as it grows its footprint at multi-residential and commercial sites as well.
Drivers will benefit from simplified trip planning with an expanded network and a more consistent charging experience.
SWTCH and FLO have both also previously signed roaming agreements with other charging operators to boast each of its network connectivity.
FLO drivers, for example, already have access to more than 90,000 other public charging through its partnerships with BC Hydro EV, ChargePoint, eCharge Network, the Electric Circuit and Shell Recharge.
