The Chevrolet Bolt is officially making its return to Canada.

The compact electric hatchback from General Motors will re-enter the market as the 2027 Bolt LT, priced from $39,999.

With an estimated range of up to 410 kilometres, it’s set to be one of the more affordable long-range EVs available when deliveries begin early next year.

“The Chevrolet Bolt made history as Canada’s first widely accessible, long-range electric vehicle, earning a fiercely loyal following for its affordability, versatility, and everyday practicality,” says James Hodge, brand director for Chevrolet Canada, in a press statement. “Since production ended, we’ve listened closely to our customers—and the passion for the Bolt has been loud and clear.”

Chevrolet is positioning the new Bolt as part of its core “affordable EV” lineup in Canada, alongside the Equinox EV, which offers more than 500 kilometres of range.

New upgrades

For the first time, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will also be offered in a sporty RS trim. This model will feature unique grille badging, high-gloss black wheels, roof rails and an exclusive Atomic Yellow exterior paired with red interior accent stitching.

Beyond its new look, the new Bolt introduces additional performance and technology upgrades. It’s powered by GM’s in-house–developed X76 electric drive unit, engineered for greater efficiency and longer range. The forthcoming Bolt is the 10th GM EV model to use this powertrain.

Efficiency improvements also extend to the braking system. A new blended regenerative braking system captures more energy during deceleration, feeding it back to the battery to enhance range. Whether or not drivers engage the One-Pedal Driving mode, the software prioritizes energy recovery and ensures a consistent, natural pedal feel — “a key improvement over the previous Bolt,” the automaker notes.

Additionally, the 2027 Bolt becomes Chevrolet’s first vehicle to include a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. The NACS port will ensure the Bolt’s compatibility with an expanding network of fast chargers across North America.

With DC fast-charging capability up to 150 kW, the new Bolt can recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in about 26 minutes. This is more than 2.5 times faster than the outgoing model, according to GM.
