The 2025 Canada Games held in St. John’s, NL., are weeks away and, this year, zero-emission vehicles are the event’s ride of choice.

Toyota Canada and Canada Games have announced a partnership that will help meet the latter’s carbon-neutral goal.

From August 8-25, 50 Toyota bZ4X battery-powered vehicles be used “to support the operations, logistics and transportation needs of the Games.”

“We are proud to welcome Toyota Canada Inc. as the Electrified Fleet Partner of the 2025 Canada Games, said Kim Keating and Karl Smith, co-chairs of the 2025 Canada Games host society board of directors, in a press release.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to sustainability and helps ensure the Games leave a lasting, environmentally and socially positive impact on Newfoundland and Labrador.”

The event is expected to draw over 5,000 athletes, managers and coaches representing 19 sports and an additional 5,000 volunteers.

A deeper EV experience

As well as supplying vehicles for the Games, which bring together able-bodied athletes and athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities, Toyota Canada is also providing EV training to event volunteers.

This will, “ensure they are fully immersed in the electrified driving experience,” says Toyota.

The initiative is being supported by all 26 Toyota Canada dealerships across Atlantic Canada.

“Toyota Canada, along with our Atlantic Canada dealers, are proud to support the Canada Games by providing them with a fleet of fully electric vehicles,” said Patrick Ryan, TCI’s Atlantic and Quebec zone manager, in a press note.

“Our Toyota dealers will be cheering on their local athletes, coaches and families participating in the Games — a clear demonstration of community connection and regional pride.”

In addition to the Toyota bZ4X vehicles, the St. John’s Canada Games will also be providing free bus services for athletes and volunteers.

Following the St. John’s event, the next Canada Games will be held in Quebec in 2027. It is not yet known what zero-emission initiatives will be implemented in Quebec.
