Ford Pro is launching a suite of new charging tools to make it easier for commercial vehicle owners to electrify their fleets.
Ford’s first new offering is the Series 2 AC Charging Station. It’s been available for customers to pre-order since Aug. 29.
The Series 2 AC delivers up to 80 amps of power and is equipped with multiple safety and security features that simplifies charging at the workplace.
“We’re committed to helping businesses make the transition to electric easy with a single-minded focus on curated commercial charging solutions,” said Ted Cannis, Ford Pro CEO, in a press release.
The charger — which supports both Ford and non-Ford electric vehicles — has the capability to track energy reports. This includes kWh consumption, charge speed and distance to empty.
Additionally, the new charger can monitor a specific vehicle’s charging history through Ford Pro’s charging management software.
“With our tailored EV consulting and portfolio of charging hardware and software solutions, we can design, implement and operate solutions for Ford and other brands that will last for many years to come,” said Cannis.
Ford Pro, the commercial division of the Ford Motor Company, says the Series 2 AC Charging Station will come with step-by-step charging instructions and temperature sensors to prevent overheating.
The station can operate in all kinds of weather ranging from -40 C to 50 C and in locations up to 3,500 metres in elevation.
It also has upgraded security through Ford Pro’s RFID card, which improves security by limiting unwanted charger access. The RFID card can also be used to designate charging sessions to a specific driver or vehicle and specify days and times for access.
The release of the Series 2 AC Charging Station also comes as Ford Pro is set to expand their DC fast charging capabilities.
The new 180 kW and 240 kW DC fast chargers feature aluminum pedestals and an improved cable retractor, Ford Pro announced.
“Using Ford Pro Charging solutions can also allow customers to charge more vehicles at a given time. Customers can deploy more EVs without necessarily needing to wait for an infrastructure upgrade. The software also tracks performance and provides fleet managers with insights like kWh consumption, charge speed and distance to empty, and helps optimize total cost of ownership.”
The company adds that Ford Pro BEV Fit — a complementary consulting service — will be included for fleet customers that purchase any electric vehicle charging technology.
“Ford Pro BEV Fit is complementary consulting available to customers to help identify available incentives, consult on charging site design and construction, and collaborate with local utilities on energy needs,” reads the press release.
The hardware is also backed by a three-year warranty on charger parts and labour. The Series 2 AC Charging Station is available for pre-order now. For more information about Ford’s charging solutions, visit their website.
