Two new e-vans, the Workhorse Group W56 and W750, are now available for purchase in Canada.

Last week, the U.S.-based technology company received approval from Transport Canada to import and sell its electric step vans.

“This is a major step forward for Workhorse,” says Josh Anderson, Workhorse’s chief technology officer in a press statement. “Pre-clearance from Transport Canada opens up a large new market for our products throughout Canada, including with fleets that operate across borders in North America.

Workhorse designs and builds its vehicles in the U.S. at its Workhorse Ranch in Union City, Indiana.

As part of the approval process, Workhorse completed its registration as a foreign manufacturer under Transport Canada’s Appendix G pre-clearance program. Transport Canada reviewed the company’s documentation to confirm compliance with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) for both vehicles.

Workhorse e-vans in Canada

Workhorse has been eyeing an entry to the Canadian last-mile delivery fleet market for some time.

It cites Canada’s “commitment to achieving net-zero emissions” and “adoption of clean transportation solutions” as motivators for its expansion into the country.

The manufacturer also adds there is strong interest from local fleets looking to incorporate medium-duty commercial EVs into their operations.

To answer that demand, Workhorse designed the W56 to come in either a Class 5 or 6-size vehicle. Each boasts a 210 kWh battery capacity, a range of 240-kilometres and over 1,000 cubic feet of cargo space.

Canadian pricing details for the vans have yet to be announced.

However, Workhorse plans to test its electric step vans in Q2 2025 with undisclosed last-mile delivery fleets.

These tests will assess the vehicles’ performance in Canadian operating conditions.

To ensure broad accessibility and customer support, the company is actively working to establish a strong dealer network across the country.

“We’re excited that our electric step vans can now reach Canadian roads and highways, providing reliable, zero-emission solutions that customers can depend on,” adds Anderson.
