Electric Autonomy Canada and the Pembina Institute launch a new national awards program recognizing fleet operators advancing zero-emission transportation in Canada

With commercial vans and trucks making up more than 30 per cent of total transportation emissions in Canada — despite making up just 4 per cent of all vehicles — electrifying fleets is of vital importance to the environment.

Some fleet owners have already made the move to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). Now is their chance to be recognized for their efforts.

Electric Autonomy Canada, in partnership with the Pembina Institute, has announced the Canadian Clean Fleet Awards, celebrating those who demonstrate leadership in decarbonizing commercial transportation across the country.

Showcasing key partners

“The Canadian Clean Fleet awards are an independent national awards program designed to recognize the leading fleets who are on the road to eliminating tailpipe pollution and greenhouse gas emissions across Canada,” says Ilana Weitzman, VP of strategic development for clean transportation with Electric Autonomy Canada. “The awards will also showcase the key partners, from engineering firms to charging infrastructure providers, and other industry partners who made their achievement possible.”

The announcement was made today at the EV & Charging Expo 2026 in Toronto. Applications for the awards are now open and will close on June 8, 2026. Applications are open to private fleet operators of all sizes and vehicle classes, with fully electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in their fleets, and to those able to share data on their electrification process.

Applications can also be made on behalf of fleet operators by suppliers or vendors who work with the operator. See here for application details.

Winners will be announced in fall 2026.

Categories for the awards will include:

• Grand Clean Fleet Award — overall leader in electrification
• Best in Class Award — outstanding performance by vehicle class
• Outsized Impact Award — major results from smaller fleets
• Innovation Award — creative solutions advancing electrification

On top of being environmentally friendly, fleet operators are also seeing that ZEVs can be good for business, cutting fuel and maintenance costs by up to 40 per cent and protecting businesses from fluctuating fuel prices.

The awards will celebrate these benefits and fleet successes, providing inspiration and guidance for other operators considering ZEVs.

“Our hope is that these awards will not just be trophies on a shelf,” says Adam Thorn, program director of transportation policy at the Pembina Institute. “This is going to really be a badge of credibility that they can use to leverage their work and their achievements for the public and, of course, for their customers.

“Furthermore, we hope that this serves as a resource for the entire ecosystem, whether you are a retailer who is looking to develop a relationship with a zero-emission fleet, or a fleet [that] is a little bit green about going green.”
