Fleet operators can manage and maximize their electric fleet’s energy efficiency using Geotab and Synop’s new single, interoperable platform

New York-based smart charging software provider Synop and Canadian telematics giant Geotab are teaming up to offer fleet operators in Canada and the U.S. access to an integrated electric vehicle charging and energy management tool within Geotab’s web-based fleet management software, MyGeotab.

This is Synop’s first entry into the Canadian market.

Synop is expanding its reach exponentially with the help of Geotab’s robust ecosystem — giving fleets unprecedented access to a full suite of data-driven services,” said Gagan Dhillon, co-founder and CEO of Synop in a press statement.

“This integration not only makes mixed fleet management easier but also helps businesses realize all of the potential cost savings that EVs can offer. That is how we will accelerate the electrification of commercial transportation.”

MyGeotab, enables users to monitor fleet performance with dashboards showing data and trends on vehicles and driving. Synop’s software allows fleet owners to manage their EV assets, uptime and energy usage in real time on a single platform.

Synop’s software endeavours to make charging more accessible for users by providing telematics integration, smart routing and AI-driven forecasting tools. The software is specifically designed for large commercial fleets. It targets the efficiency of fleet EV operations, optimizes their resources and fulfils sustainability objectives.

According to Synop, its software is built to interoperate with mixed-fuel fleets. It supports all commercial EV types and charging infrastructures.

Platform offerings

Geotab and Synop say their partnership is a response to commercial fleet owners’ needs to reduce the obstacles they face when integrating electric vehicles into their fleets. Some of these challenges include unpredictability of energy prices, multiple charging requirements and long charge cycles.

The integration of Synop’s software platform and Geotab’s data insights will not require fleet operators to install any additional any hardware or tools. By accessing their existing MyGeotab telematics platform account online, fleet operators will be able to identify:

  • Their fleet’s current charge levels;
  • Anticipate when vehicles will reach full charge;
  • Evaluate expenses associated with charging up; and
  • Gain insights into the energy efficiency of each vehicle.

In addition, customers will have access to vehicle-to-grid (V2G) support and energy time-of-use rates.

“At Geotab, sustainability is core to our purpose. Actionable data insights and sustainable customer solutions are essential as we transition to a low-carbon future,” said Eric Mallia, vice-president of sustainability solutions at Geotab, in a press statement.

“We’re thrilled to add Synop’s solution to our sustainability ecosystem, supporting our customers to better manage their EV fleet, reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.”
