Episode 1: Secure, fast, reliable and the NACS effect

Episode 1: Secure, fast, reliable and the NACS effect

NOVEMBER 1, 2023 1PM ET / 10AM PT

Customer needs are fairly simple when it comes to a charging network: they want their personal information to be safe, they want their charge to be fast and they want the station to work. With adoption rates climbing and potential new EV customer doubts to be overcome, it’s never been more vital for charging networks to prove themselves in each category. This webinar will explore: the strategies being used to meet and exceed user expectations at charging stations; how adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) may help; and ask whether there is still need for an operational Canadian charging standard.

Episode 2: Charging in condos and MURBS

Episode 2: Charging in condos and MURBS

NOVEMBER 8, 2023 1PM ET / 10AM PT

Getting charging infrastructure into multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs), including condos, stratas and apartments, is still an industry-wide headache. There are some hopeful indicators that the issue is becoming easier to manage (more municipal charging by-laws are coming into effect and some provinces are looking at the issue), but for many the hurdles to get retrofitted solutions is a barrier to adoption. What are some successful methods that have been used? Is there a specific order of steps condo owners and boards should be taking to secure charging? How can safeguards be put in place to stop the cost of installing chargers falling on renters who may see their rents rise?

Episode 3: Building a resilient grid

Episode 3: Building a resilient grid

NOVEMBER 22, 2023 1PM ET / 10AM PT

Canada’s grids are each facing challenges to get EV-ready. Whether it’s capacity issues, clean power sources, or the need to update poles and transmission wires, each grid’s needs are different and nuanced. This webinar will explore the options available to utilities as they assess their hardware, software and power-generating needs and contrast them against the projected demand needed in 2025, 2035 and beyond.

Episode 4: Supporting medium- and heavy-duty fleets

Episode 4: Supporting medium- and heavy-duty fleets

NOVEMBER 29, 2023 1PM ET / 10AM PT

Every month more zero-emission vehicles hit the market — including in the medium- and heavy-duty (MHDV) segments. With major fleets now looking at adopting hundreds if not thousands of zero-emission vehicles in the coming years, what steps need to be taken now on the fleet and utility sides to ensure these vehicles have access to the refuelling technologies they need? Where have fleets been successful in securing commercial charging? What funding streams are available and how are they accessed? How can the processes today be improved upon? Plus, a primer on the Clean Fuel Regulations, the carbon credit market and how both can combine to make a strong case for zero-emission MHDV adoption.

Episode 5: Boosting uptake in Indigenous communities

Episode 5: Boosting uptake in Indigenous communities

DECEMBER 6, 2023 1PM ET / 10AM PT

To ensure an equitable transition to electric vehicles, Indigenous funding for EV charging is a critical element to get right. This session looks at where the disconnects are between the funding that’s available and how charging infrastructure is being deployed in Indigenous communities. How accessible is the funding for Indigenous applicants? What are the structural issues in the existing system that are acting as barriers? What other EV awareness techniques, partnerships, and collaborations could be cultivated to better facilitate adoption? Are there projects like the Oneida Energy Storage Project that can be replicated to ensure, in addition to achieving EV adoption and access to charging, that there are strong Indigenous interests represented in infrastructure powered by clean, sustainable energy?

SPEAKERS:
  • Dawn Lambe, Economic Policy Analyst, Anishinabek Nation
  • Daniel Hartley, President, Powertech
  • Jessica Tait, Sustainable Transportation Lead, Indigenous Clean Energy
  • Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Government of Canada
  • Emma Jarratt, Executive Editor, Electric Autonomy (Moderator)
