The Mercedes 2024 eSprinter is arriving in Canada this year, the German automaker revealed today.
The 2024 eSprinter is a next-generation version of Mercedes original eSprinter van, first released exclusively in Europe in 2019. The new version, to be built at plants in the U.S. and Europe, offers 400 kilometres of range (500 km for a city duty-cycle, only) based on European WLTP range. It charges at a maximum of 115 kW.
“With the new eSprinter, we are taking the electric large van segment to a new level,” says Mathias Geisen, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, in a press release.
“The triad of efficiency, range and load capacity with simultaneous TCO optimization makes the new eSprinter the most versatile Mercedes-Benz eVan ever.”
The 2024 Mercedes eSprinter is hitting the North American market full of the company’s go-to features.
To start, Canadian and American eSprinter customers will get a 113 kWh battery for the vehicle. Recharge time from 10 to 80 per cent will take approximately 42 minutes, says Mercedes.
The eSprinter will also come with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), the company says.
“Highlights include increased performance, extensive personalization options and optimizations of the “Hey Mercedes” voice control assistant,” reads the press release.
The load capacity for the vehicle is 14 cubic metres.
Designing the vehicle cost Mercedes 350 million euros. Another 50 million euros are going to adapting the Charleston, Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde plants for eSprinter production.
“The new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter consistently follows our strategy — to be the leader in electric mobility with the most desirable vans while achieving profitable growth worldwide,” said Geisen.
Canadian and U.S. customers can expect the eSprinter to arrive in the second half of 2023. The same version of this eVan won’t hit the European market until late 2023.
The company says it is on track to meet its sustainability targets, which includes a pledge that after 2025, all new vehicle models released by the automaker will be electric.
“Mercedes-Benz Vans has firmly anchored its leadership aspiration for electric mobility in its strategy,” reads the press release. “Today, Mercedes-Benz has electrified all segments from the small van to the mid-size van and the large van.”
Mercedes has not yet released pricing for the eSprinter. North American range figures will also be released closer to launch.
